In April 2006 Jae Rhim Lee sent her urine to a floriculture lab to determine the availability of plant nutrients in her urine. She followed a custom vegan diet designed to transform her urine into a more ideal nutrient solution for plants. She built a mobile urine recycling system which contained a urinal, urine processor, foam bed, kitchen, and hydroponic napa cabbage garden. She urinated, processed (with nitrosomas bacteria) and sterilized her urine, grew napa cabbages hydroponically with the urine, made kimchi from the napa cabbage, and served the kimchi to the public.
